The premise is that each month we'd set up a vague theme or concept for a WGL mission, and then everyone would try and make a very, very simple mission that fits that theme or concept. This won't be a "contest" or anything like that. It should be as flexible as possible. If anyone doesn't have the time to make a mission for a certain month, that's no problem, but the hope is that by the end of each month or so we have 3 or 4 very simple missions we can play in OFP.The RulesSimplicityThe missions we make should be very simple waypoint/editor type stuff, with very little scripting. The focus here is to get interesting, quick and dirty scenarios out over the course of a few weeks. Some scripts could be warranted, but nothing too fancy! This should also extend to the themes for each month; keep it vague mission profiles, e.g. "Attack and hold" rather than "Russian MOUT operations with artillery support against US National Guard on Nogova".AddonsThe missions must make use of WGL, with as little other addon usage as possible. A couple vehicles or something like that is fine, but the objective is to have a mission that everyone can play quickly and easily without having to download various addons each time a new mission is made.
The first theme for August is Guerilla Warfare.
Guerilla Warfare is a very broad term and probably one of the broadest you'll see here. Usually, this type of tactic is employed when you have the agility, initiative, depth, and syncronization to attack a stronger or more deadly foe. Operations in this category are usually one of harrassment. Typical examples might include:
GW Operations are usually executed quickly and precisely. Don't forget that Players could be on either the attacking or defending side.
"In Phase II, having gained enough local or external support, the insurgent initiates organized guerrilla warfare or related forms of violence against the government. The major military goal is to gain control of resources and the population in new areas. The government is forced to overtax limited assets, trying to protect everything at the same time. Insurgent forces try to hold government troops in static defenses, to interdict and destroy LOC, and to capture or destroy supplies and other government resources."
The second theme for August is less broad as the first.
A "Raid" is defined as a swift penetration of hostile territory that may be conducted to destroy installations, confuse the enemy, or gather information. The main difference between a regular attack and a raid is that a raid includes a planned withdrawal. This means that forces do not intend to occupy or seige the planned target location. The Air Assault Raid denotes that the friendly force utilizes an Air Attack Force (helicopters or fixed-wing) to provide the major means of transportation and support.
Mission designers should emphasize the role of the air units in this mission.
Starting off the Missions of the Month venture is this simple theme:
Hasty Ambush. A platoon or squad conducts a hasty ambush when it makes visual contact with an enemy force and has time to establish an ambush without being detected. The actions for a hasty ambush must be well rehearsed so that soldiers know what to do on the leader’s signal. They must also know what action to take if detected before they are ready to initiate the ambush.
